Charles Schorre

Charles Schorre left a lasting impression on the people who met him, who were taught by him, who own his work, and even those with only a passing interest in what he created. This book is a result of his influence.

In the spring of 1994, a conversation between Lomis Slaughter and Alexander McLanahan about Schorre, his studio and his work, started the ball rolling. A group of people who have followed Schorre’s life journey gathered together and set about to support the mounting of a major exhibition of his work. This book is a companion to that effort and is being published to coincide with the 1997 opening of the Charles Schorre exhibition at the Art Museum of South Texas in Corpus Christi.

The Charles Schorre Project, sponsored by the Houston Artists Fund, consists of an advisory board that includes Alexander K. McLanahan (chairman), Lomis Slaughter (treasurer), John Boehm, Betty Fleming, Frederic Fleming, Lester Giese, Jane H. Gregory, Helen. S. Morgan, Alton Z. Parks, Jr., and Wallace S. Wilson.

Charles Schorre died while this book was being created. The project was brought to fruition with the help and guidance of his loving – and loved – wife, Miggie
